What You Can (and Cannot) Do with Facebook Timeline Cover Image March 2013

What You Can (and Cannot) Do with Facebook Timeline Cover Image March 2013

There are some exciting changes on Facebook! They have relaxed quite a bit on their rules/guidelines for their timeline cover images. They previously had some strict guidelines regarding what they did NOT allow on your timeline cover image: 1. No contact info 2. No calls to action 3. No reference to price or sales info 4. No asking for a "Like" for your page 5. No asking friends to share the page or info But they have removed all of that wording from their guidelines ... but ... they still have the wording,

All covers are public. This means that anyone who visits your Page will be able to see your cover. Covers can’t be deceptive, misleading, or infringe on anyone else’s copyright. You may not encourage people to upload your cover to their personal timelines. Covers may not include images with more than 20% text.
That means that the text/wording on your image cannot use up more than 20% of the image. Many people are confused as to how to calculate the "20 percent" but I'd say just use good judgement.

If you are worried about it I've seen some posts trying to give tips on how to calculate it so you might look around for some assistance.

So .. do you plan on changing your cover image? Were you abiding by the rules prior to this announcement or were you already bending/breaking them?

Should be fun to see the creative ways people will make use of their cover images with these restrictions lifted huh? Let us hear from you on this subject! *SmiLes* Suzanne
